TAP
InSpira’s Tap Dance program turns dancers into musicians, as they create rhythms and beats with their feet. Tap focuses on developing timing, coordination, and musicality, allowing dancers to become part of the music itself. Our classes teach a variety of tap techniques, from classic Broadway-style tap to more modern rhythm tap. Students learn intricate footwork and how to control the sound they make, honing their precision and speed. Tap at InSpira is fun, challenging, and energizing, offering dancers of all levels an opportunity to connect with the music while building technique, strength, and coordination. The joy of tap lies in its ability to combine movement and sound in a way that’s both expressive and musical.
Little Inspiration Tap Program
The Little InSpiration Tap Program introduces young dancers to the exciting world of tap, focusing on rhythm, timing, and coordination. Designed for children aged 2.5-6, this program uses fun, age-appropriate exercises to help students explore tap dance fundamentals. Dancers learn how to use their feet to create percussive rhythms, enhancing their musicality and sense of timing. With a focus on joy and creativity, the Little InSpiration Tap Program fosters a love of dance while building essential skills that prepare young dancers for future levels.
Little Inspiration Levels & Progression
Pre-Primary Level Tap
Pre-Primary Tap focuses on introducing the fundamentals of tap to young dancers. In this level, students will learn simple tap steps, like toe taps, heel drops, and shuffles, all while having fun in a creative and supportive setting. Dancers will begin to develop their sense of rhythm and timing as they explore how to create sounds with their feet. Through structured play and engaging activities, they’ll start understanding musical beats and building coordination.
How Pre-Primary Tap Works
The Pre-Primary Tap Level typically runs for 1-2 years, depending on the dancer's progress. At some InSpira locations, the Pre-Primary Level is separated into two age-specific classes: Pre-Primary A for dancers aged 3 and Pre-Primary B for dancers aged 4. In other locations, the Pre-Primary levels are combined into one class for children aged 3-4.
Pre-Primary A (Ages 3): This class introduces young dancers to the basics of tap, focusing on simple movements, rhythm, and coordination. Dancers explore foundational tap steps like toe taps, heel drops, and shuffles, while developing a sense of rhythm and timing in a fun and supportive environment.
Pre-Primary B (Ages 4): Building on what was introduced in Pre-Primary A, this class deepens the child's understanding of basic tap techniques. Students work on improving their ability to combine steps, follow musical rhythms, and express themselves through movement, while continuing to foster creativity and a sense of fun.
Combined Pre-Primary Class (Ages 3-4): In locations where the Pre-Primary A and B levels are combined, the class follows the same structure and objectives. The instructor will tailor lessons to meet the developmental needs of both age groups, ensuring that younger students are introduced to foundational tap steps, while older students refine their skills and coordination. The teacher will assess each dancer's progress and determine if they need to remain in the level for 1 or 2 years.
Progression from Pre-Primary to Primary Level Tap
Whether in a combined or separated class, students typically remain in the Pre-Primary Level for 1-2 years. Progression is determined by the instructor based on each dancer’s development, ability to follow instructions, and growing control over basic movements.
If your location offers separate classes, please register for Pre-Primary A if your child is 3 years old or Pre-Primary B if your child is 4 years old. If the location combines the levels, register for Pre-Primary Level Tap, and the instructor will guide you on your dancer's progression.
Please register your student for the class that corresponds to their age as of September 7,2024.
Duration & Class Size
Pre-Primary Level Classes are typically 30 minutes long with a class size no larger than 12-15 students.
Primary Level Tap
Primary Tap builds on the skills introduced in Pre-Primary, advancing the dancer’s ability to execute more complex tap combinations. In this level, dancers will refine their rhythmic precision, learning additional tap techniques such as flaps, cramp rolls, and simple turns. They’ll also start to integrate combinations into routines, developing confidence in performing and maintaining musical timing. This level helps dancers become more comfortable with syncopated rhythms and prepares them for more structured tap training in the InSpira EXPerience Division.
